TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Utility crews are restoring service after strong storms swept through New Jersey, downing trees and power lines.

South Jersey was the hardest hit Sunday night.

Atlantic City Electric says nearly 1,200 homes and businesses are without service, mostly in Gloucester and Salem counties. That’s down from about 19,000 customers who were without power at the height of the storm.

The National Weather Service had issued thunderstorm watches and warnings for the state and wind gusts as high as 70 mph were recorded.

No major damage or injuries were reported.
