LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) - A new survey shows that boat traffic on Lake George was up a solid 6 percent last year.

The 2015 Lake George Recreation Study counted 15,923 boats registered, either annually or temporarily, to use the lake. That’s the most since 2002, when the combined total was 17,752.

The study of the 32-mile and its 176-mile shoreline cost $50,000 and was commissioned by the Lake George Park Commission. It updates a similar study conducted a decade earlier and includes feedback from nearly 1,000 visitors and residents who used the lake for recreation last year.

The survey also found nearly universal awareness of the recent requirement that boats be inspected for invasive species before entering the water.

Lake George is the only New York lake that requires boaters to register separately.
