A feminist pornographer has won the right to reinstate her sadomasochism fetish website in what she has described as a landmark victory for free speech rights in the U.K.

Pandora Blake, who runs DreamsofSpanking.com out of London, said she believed she was targeted by the Authority for Television on Demand (Atvod) watchdog because she spoke out publicly against anti-porn regulations, The Guardian reported.

In 2014, Atvod banned the depiction of consensual sex acts that were judged morally damaging or life-threatening, including face-sitting, female ejaculation and spanking that leaves marks. Ms. Blake was a vocal opponent of the ban, and her website was soon among the pornography websites removed.

Following an appeal launched last summer, the U.K.’s Office of Communications ruled Monday that Ms. Blake’s website was not subject to the regulation.

“Ofcom found that the site was not a video-on-demand service and therefore it was not subject to regulation,” a spokesperson said. “When regulated video-on-demand services break our rules, we take robust action to protect children.”

Ms. Blake reacted to the ruling in a post Monday on her personal blog.

“The point of Dreams of Spanking was to make ethical porn based on my own fantasies,” she wrote. “I’m not ashamed of being kinky and there’s no harm in adults sharing consensual BDSM films. The AVMS [Audio Visual Media Services] regulations effectively criminalized my sexuality. I was singled out because I criticized the new laws. ATVOD tried to shut me up, but they failed.”

“Now I’ve won my appeal I feel vindicated,” she said. “The war against intrusive and oppressive state censorship isn’t over but this decision is a landmark victory for feminist porn, diversity and freedom of expression.”
