NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (AP) - Police say six children and one adult were injured in central New York after a van they were in left the road and crashed into a tree.

It happened Sunday afternoon on state Route 8 in the Oneida County town of New Hartford.

Seven of the van’s eight occupants - including six children - were hospitalized to be evaluated for non-life threatening injuries.

New Hartford police say a van driven by 36-year-old Jaime Quito of Patchogue (PACH’-awg) on Long Island apparently hydroplaned in the passing lane just before crashing.

Quito has been ticketed for unlicensed operation, speed not reasonable and prudent, unsafe tires, and five charges for a back seat passenger between the age of 8 and 15 not wearing a seat belt.

It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
