LEWES, Del. (AP) - Police say a former Delaware lawmaker has been charged in a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

Delaware State Police announced in a statement Sunday that 46-year-old John Atkins of Millsboro has been charged with offensive touching and criminal mischief. Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz says the former state representative surrendered to authorities.

Police say a woman called 911 Friday to report an altercation with Atkins. She told police that Atkins had permission to remove property from her home, but when she discovered other items were taken, she tried to damage items in his truck. She says Atkins pushed her against her vehicle and kicked her vehicle before leaving.

Atkins was released on $1,000 unsecured bond. He did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
