NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities say a man has been killed and two others, including a Louisiana state trooper, have been injured following two crashes that occurred after a driver pulled over to urinate.

Citing a police statement, The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1UlMuQk) the incident happened early Sunday when Louis R. Hernandez, of Meridian, Mississippi, pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of Interstate 10 in St. Charles Parish.

Police say another driver, 42-year-old Joel Ybarra of Little Rock, Arkansas, veered to avoid hitting Hernandez, crashing into 21-year-old David Vasquez-Dueno’s vehicle. Vasquez-Dueno of Houma died. Ybarra was critically injured and taken to a hospital.

An unidentified trooper responded to the scene when 34-year-old James F. Osborne IV of Baton Rouge struck his vehicle.

That trooper was taken to the hospital. Police say Osborne faces several charges including driving while intoxicated.
