NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island U.S. Sen. Jack Reed will give the head of the U.S. Maritime Administration a tour of two Rhode Island ports.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1O9PDpT ) that Reed and Administrator Paul Jaenichen will visit a facility at the Newport shipyard Monday that recently won a $744,990 federal grant for capital improvements and equipment.

The Democratic senator and Jaenichen will later join Gov. Gina Raimondo at ProvPort to christen a 300-foot, $7.4 million barge.

Jaenichen has led the U.S. Maritime Administration in Washington since July 2014. The agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation works to ensure the nation maintains adequate shipbuilding, efficient ports, reserve shipping capacity.
