RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The trial is slated to begin for the last of three defendants charged in the abuse death of a 3-year-old Henrico County boy.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/24szIon) jury selection in Alexis Raiford’s trial starts Monday. Raiford faces several charges including murder and child abuse and neglect in the April 2015 death of Zyon Thompson.

Prosecutors say the child died of dehydration after being subjected to extreme abuse. The abuse included being forced to eat crab seasoning.

Raiford’s husband, Clarence Raiford Jr. and William Corey Moore were convicted in Decembers of felony murder and child abuse charges in Zyon’s death.

Their sentencings are pending. Zyon was in the Raifords’ care at the time of his death.

Raiford’s defense attorney Kevin Purnell could not be reached for comment by the newspaper.
