COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A central Ohio man suspected of fatally shooting his landlord to avoid eviction and setting a vehicle with the body on fire has been indicted on aggravated murder and other charges.

Franklin County’s prosecutor says the charges against 33-year-old Maurice Watkins also include aggravated arson, evidence tampering and gross abuse of a corpse.

Watkins and a man suspected of helping him set the blaze were arrested last week after firefighters extinguished a Columbus garage fire and found the body of the landlord, 50-year-old Joseph Remlinger. Authorities say Watkins still had the firearm.

The second defendant, 26-year-old Pierre Williams, was arrested when he sought treatment for burns. His charges include aggravated arson, tampering and corpse abuse.

The two men had no attorneys on record. Their arraignment is Friday.
