PARIS, N.Y. (AP) - Police say three young children were taken to hospitals after a car filled up with smoke on a central New York road.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Ashley Kampf of West Winfield was driving a Ford Taurus on Route 8 in the town of Paris around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle filled with smoke.

She pulled over and started to get the children out of the car, but found they were unconscious. Clayville firefighters arrived and started caring for the children, ages 2- and 4-years-old, and an 8-month-old baby.

The older children were transported to St. Luke’s Campus of Mohawk Valley Healthcare System. The baby was taken to the St. Elizabeth Campus in critical condition.

The sheriff’s office had no information on what caused the smoke.
