NEW YORK (AP) - Right-hander Cory Rasmus has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Los Angeles Angels after recovering from a strained left groin.

Rasmus felt pain when he pitched on May 12 and the Angels put him on the DL five days later, a move retroactive to May 13. To clear a roster spot, the Angels optioned left-hander Greg Mahle to Triple-A Salt Lake after Wednesday’s loss to the New York Yankees.

Rasmus, 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA in one start and 10 relief appearances, is not a candidate to start Sunday against Cleveland.

“We’ll see where he can fit into our ‘pen,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Tim Lincecum is slated to make at least one more appearance at Triple-A.

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons, recovering from surgery May 16 to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, was to start an injury rehabilitation assignment Thursday at Salt Lake. He will spend at least two games there, according to Scioscia.
