BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Yellowstone County has settled a lawsuit brought by a former inmate who claims the county jail was negligent in failing to diagnose his throat cancer for nearly a year.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1UFkxpg ) that the county reached the $150,000 settlement with Fred Miller last month. Attorney Kevin Gillen says the county is not admitting any liability with the agreement.

Miller had sued the county in 2014 for $3 million in damages, alleging negligence, cruel and unusual punishment and violation of his rights.

He had been jailed for an arrest on a theft charge in 2009. The suit says he complained numerous times to jail staff about problems with his throat but was never diagnosed or treated until September 2010, when he was transferred to a jail in Missoula.
