NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont man accused of drunken driving in a crash that killed two passengers and seriously injured a third has pleaded not guilty.

WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1td4hCP ) 30-year-old Joshua Cole entered the plea Wednesday to charges following a May 29 crash that killed 26-year-old Ryan Coulter and 29-year-old Esperanza Robies.

Authorities say Cole and three friends left a party to get more alcohol. They made it to the store but investigators say Cole’s vehicle went off the road in West Charleston on the way back and hit a tree.

Police say no one was wearing a seatbelt.

Court documents say Cole refused a police blood test but an exam more than an hour after the crash indicated his blood alcohol level was 0.24 percent. That’s about three times the legal limit.
