SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An outdoor sports association says it’s moving its headquarters thousands of miles from Virginia to Utah later this summer.

SnowSports Industries America said Thursday in a news release that the relocation to Park City will mean it’s closer to its members and industry stakeholders. Association president Nick Sargent called the move necessary and expects it to spur significant benefits for the business.

The association plans to move in August, but has not yet decided exactly where its office will be located. A small portion of employees will be moving to the new location.

The relocation will also allow the association to be closer to its annual expo held in Colorado.

Utah ski resorts reported having nearly 4.5 million skier visits in the 2015-16 season, a 10-year high for visitors.
