MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis has signed Keon Clergeot (pronounced cler-JO), a guard from Auburndale, Florida.

The school announced the signing Thursday.

Clergeot, who is 6-foot-1, averaged 26.5 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists per game as a senior at Auburndale High School.

Memphis coach Tubby Smith said in a statement that “we have a need for him because of his outside shooting, and his ball handling and passing skills. He’s a hard-nosed and blue-collar worker. He will take (a) charge and dive on the floor for loose balls. He is a real hustler - my kind of player.”

Clergeot joins guard Christian Kesse and guard/forward Jimario Rivers as newcomers on Memphis’ 2016-17 roster. Kessee is a graduate transfer from Coppin State. Rivers, a freshman, signed with Memphis in November.
