BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that killed an 81-year-old pedestrian on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say 81-year-old Maria Carmelina Arroba Gavilanez was walking on Ferris Avenue near O’Rourke Street in Brentwood when she was hit by a car at 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the vehicle kept going. It was described as being possibly light in color.

Gavilanez was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say she was from Ecuador and was visiting family in Brentwood.
