NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut police have made an arrest in a shooting in which the victim apparently asked to be shot.

New Britain police responded to a home on May 31 for reports of a man shot in the chest. The 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.

Police said the victim originally reported being shot by an unknown assailant.

But police on Wednesday arrested Juan Ortiz. Ortiz is a convicted felon who police say knows the unnamed victim.

Police say “the victim actually arranged to be shot by Ortiz for an unspecified amount of money and was a willing participant in his own assault.”

Police didn’t disclose why the man wanted to be shot.

Ortiz is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
