PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police say a 66-year-old Mena man died after crashing his small airplane in a rural area of Jefferson County.

State troopers responded to a call of a downed aircraft at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in southwest Jefferson County near the Grant County line. State police say Phillip Sloan, who was the pilot, died in the crash.

A 19-year-old man who was a passenger in the plane was injured and taken to a Pine Bluff hospital. State police say he is in stable condition.

State police secured the crash scene and say the Federal Aviation Administration will determine the manner and cause of the crash.
