WAYNE, W.Va. (AP) - A 22-year-old Wayne County man has been convicted in the 2014 stabbing death of a 77-year-old man.

Media outlets report a jury on Wednesday found Jeremy Marcum guilty of murder, malicious wounding and conspiracy.

James “Red” Bundy and his wife, 55-year-old Myrtle Bundy, were attacked with a knife at their home in Genoa after answering the door to someone asking to use the phone. The husband died, and Myrtle Bundy was seriously wounded.

Marcum’s mother, Sheila Rains, said after the verdict she was sorry for the Bundys. She said her son had a rough upbringing and was truthful in court about being heavily influenced by drugs.

Two others face charges in connection with the case.

Sentencing is scheduled Thursday.
