EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a dispute between a mother and her adult daughter ended with the older woman hitting the daughter with a machete and barricading herself inside their southern New Jersey apartment.

Egg Harbor Township police say 60-year-old Asima Funes was charged with aggravated assault and a weapons offense. They said she was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, but further details about her were not disclosed.

Authorities have not said what sparked the dispute, which started late Monday afternoon. They say the 33-year-old victim was struck in her left arm by the machete and was treated at a hospital.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Authorities say Funes was uncooperative with negotiators during the standoff and officers had to forcibly enter the apartment and take her out.
