BOSTON (AP) - Fire officials say workers were evacuated from Boston Children’s Hospital after firefighters responded to a chemical spill.

Officials say the spill happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday at a research lab. No patients are housed there.

District Fire Chief Paul Miller says a hot plate was left on a low setting with a plastic container nearby, creating a haze in the room on the 10th floor of the building.

Firefighters briefly evacuated about five workers while hazmat investigators worked to determine the nature of the chemical.

A hospital spokeswoman tells The Boston Globe that it was a false alarm and not a hazmat situation. Miller says the cleanup will not require any special precautions.
