DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines police have charged a man with stealing a vehicle at knife-point from a detective’s husband during a police event.

Police arrested 55-year-old La Forest Bennett on charges that he pulled out a knife and robbed a man outside a Des Moines hotel where hundreds of officers gathered Saturday night for the annual Black and Blue Ball.

KCCI reports Patrick Garcia, who is the husband of Detective Lorna Garcia, was robbed of his car keys.

Bennett is accused of crashing the man’s vehicle into the garage of an east Des Moines home.

Bennett is being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, eluding and failure to have a driver’s license.
