SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a man who was sleeping in a dumpster was critically injured when the large trash bin was emptied into a garbage truck.

Salt Lake City firefighters say the driver was clearing rubbish from the truck’s roof on Thursday when he heard the man calling from help from inside the back of the truck.

Salt Lake Fire Capt. Mark Bednarik says the man had likely dropped 10 to 15 feet when a mechanical arm turned the dumpster over into the truck.

He says the driver called 911 and rescue crews pulled the man from the back of the truck.
