College of Charleston men’s basketball coach Earl Grant signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Cougars through the 2019-20 season.

Athletic director Joe Hull announced Grant’s new deal on Thursday.

Hull said Grant earned the extension through the team’s play the past two seasons after entering under difficult circumstances. Grant took the job before the 2014-15 after the College of Charleston fired Doug Wojcik amid allegations he verbally abused players and school staffers.

This year, College of Charleston leading scorer, Canyon Barry, was lost of the season with a shoulder injury in early January.

The Cougars were 17-14 this season, including a win over LSU at home last November.

Hull said he expected Charleston to “seriously compete” for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
