JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Elk are leaving some northwest Wyoming feeding grounds in favor of foraging on newly snow-free slopes.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports (https://bit.ly/223jfeE ) that the winter feeding season has already been brought to a halt at four feedgrounds in the Pinedale area. Wyoming Game and Fish Department spokesman Mark Grocke says the daily hay rations have been reduced at other feedgrounds near Jackson.

Grocke says elk are able to get food from the low elevation slopes earlier than usual, thanks to the warm weather.
