RENO, Nev. (AP) - Police say a man with a rifle who was shot and killed by police called 911 and acted erratically near businesses off a highway exit north of Reno.

Police Lt. William Rulla told the Reno Gazette-Journal (on.rgj.com/1pdrS4f) it took about an hour to find the man after his call about 8:15 p.m. Thursday. The man said he had a gun near U.S. 395 and Lemmon Drive.

Rulla says the nearby Amazon warehouse was locked down and SWAT officers and a police helicopter went to the scene. A sheriff’s deputy found the man about 9:15 p.m.

Rulla says the man refused to surrender before he was shot. He was pronounced dead at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Because a Reno officer was involved, Sparks police are leading the investigation.
