CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium is asking its members to choose a name for its new southern sea otter pup.

The pup - now known as Pup 719 - was rescued on a beach in Carmel, California by Monterey Bay Aquarium officials. She arrived at the Shedd Aquarium in January and has since grown to almost 15 pounds.

Now she needs a name.

The choices are based on habitats that are native to southern sea otters.

They include Gilly, for Guillemot Island, and Ellie, for Carmel Beach, where she was rescued.

Other options are Cali, which is short for California; Poppy, the California state flower; or Reya, a name derived from Monterey Bay.

The name will be revealed when the pup makes her first public appearance on March 18.
