JESSIEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Garland County Sheriff’s Office says that the Mountain Pine police chief was justified in the use of deadly force during an exchange of gunfire that left a man dead.

Garland County Sheriff Mike McCormick said Friday that he had received a letter Wednesday from Prosecuting Attorney Terri Harris stating that 46-year-old Police Chief Chad King had been cleared in the case and that “no further review of this matter is necessary.”

King has been on paid administrative leave pending an investigation after he shot 52-year-old Scott Scanlon while responding to a trespassing report near Jessieville on Jan. 27. Scanlon was pronounced dead at the scene.

King, who is also a commissioned Garland County sheriff’s deputy, was shot multiple times during the altercation.
