PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have identified a man who was captured after allegedly shooting his girlfriend to death.

Police say 20-year-old Rodney Patterson was booked on second-degree murder Friday afternoon.

Officers already in the area of 19th Avenue and Ocotillo Road to investigate a separate incident were told by residents that shots had been fired at an apartment complex.

Police entered an apartment and found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound and pronounced her dead.

They detained Patterson about a block and a half away.

Investigators say Patterson and the victim had a troubled relationship.

A second man who was in the apartment during the shooting is still outstanding.

Police have not released the victim’s name pending notification of family.
