HOWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A police officer suffered minor injuries when his cruiser and another vehicle collided.

Howell Township police say the crash occurred around 4:10 p.m. Friday in the area of West Farms Road and Georgia Tavern Road.

Patrolman Sean MacDonald was eastbound on West Farms Road when a car operated by a 17-year-old Jackson girl entered the roadway. The girl had been stopped at a stop sign at Georgia Tavern Road.

The impact sent MacDonald’s cruiser into a utility pole, which snapped in two places. The downed power lines sparked a nearby brush fire and caused a power outage in the area that lasted for about three hours.

The teen and her 17-year-old female passenger declined medical attention. MacDonald was treated at a hospital for undisclosed minor injuries.

No charges have been filed.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
