VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A woman who helped funnel illegal real estate profits to fellow members of a Virginia Beach church has avoided prison time on conspiracy charges.

A federal judge sentenced Bobbie Hillman on Friday to probation and a year of home detention. The judge said Hillman was not motivated by greed, but was instead seeking love and spiritual validation.

The Virginia-Pilot reports (bit.ly/1YKstHg) that Hillman, former president of a title company, falsified real estate settlement forms, tricking banks out of more than half a million dollars.

Authorities say the money was funneled to two fellow members of Wave Church, Ben Julian and Jared Williams.

Hillman said at Friday’s sentencing that she thought the money was helping the church,

Julian and Williams pleaded guilty last year and were sentenced to prison.
