LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas fire officials say one person has died and several people have been displaced by a fire in an apartment complex.

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Jeff Buchanan says several fire engines responded to the blaze around 8:45 a.m. Sunday on Karen Avenue near Mountain Vista Street.

Buchanan says smoke was visible from the eaves of a second-story unit.

Firefighters found the fire in an upstairs kitchen.

One adult was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

An adult and five children in a neighboring apartment were unable to return because of water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
