IRMO, S.C. (AP) - A man has been electrocuted at a road construction site in Richland County.

Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis tells local media outlets rescue crews were called Friday afternoon to a worksite near Irmo.

Coroner Gary Watts says the man was helping with a road paving project when a dump truck pouring asphalt either touched or came close to an overheard power line. Watts says the truck driver wasn’t hurt, but a man close by on the ground was killed.

Officials said this was the third workplace death in the Columbia area in the past month. Earlier this week, one person was killed and another injured at a different construction site. Last month, a man was crushed to death between a tanker truck and the bed of the truck.
