GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a man in a fire at a Greenville County motel.

Gantt Fire Department officials tell local media outlets that a call came in just after 10 a.m. Saturday about a fire at an Economy Inn.

The coroner’s office says 49-year-old Arthur Junior Grubbs III of Pickens was pulled from his room by a bystander when they saw smoke coming from the room.

Firefighters discovered that a mattress had caught fire.

Grubbs was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, and authorities haven’t determined what caused the fire.
