HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police are seeking a gunman after a convenience store owner was fatally shot during an attempted robbery.

Investigators say the gunfire happened Saturday night after the suspect walked in, pointed a gun at a clerk and tried to hold up the business.

Police say the clerk ran to the back of the store, where the owner was doing some paperwork, and the gunman followed and opened fire.

Houston police say the store owner also had a gun and shot at the suspect, possibly wounding him.

Sgt. Brian Harris says the suspect fled without obtaining any cash.

The clerk wasn’t hurt.
