PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have made an arrest in the shooting death of a man who initially was thought to have overdosed before he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole.

Paterson police say 22-year-old city resident Davine Campbell faces murder charges and several other counts. His bail was set at $2.5 million, and it wasn’t known Sunday if he has retained an attorney.

The charges stem from the March 4 shooting of Justin Pease.

Authorities say the Stanhope man managed to drive several blocks from the scene of the shooting before he crashed.

Pease was found dead inside the vehicle, and authorities initially thought he had overdosed. But the case became a homicide investigation after authorities found a bullet wound.

A motive for the shooting has not been disclosed.
