PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a man and his dog were killed when the man’s car went off the road and crashed.

Police spokesman Trent Crump said Sunday the single-vehicle collision happened near Elliot Road and 48th Street.

According to Crump, 47-year-old David Delair was driving when his truck veered off the road.

The car then hit several large trees in front of a supermarket parking lot.

Crump says Delair was trapped inside the cab of the truck but he was pronounced dead the scene.

Delair’s dog was ejected from the car and died from its injuries.

Crump says preliminary evidence indicates Delair intentionally left the roadway.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
