NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a New York City woman has been arrested on a murder charge after a newborn baby was found dead in a trash bag at a home on Staten Island.

Police say 28-year-old Nausheen Rahman was arrested Saturday on a charge of concealment of a human corpse. Officials say the murder charge was added Sunday after the medical examiner determined the baby was alive at birth. It wasn’t clear if she had a lawyer.

Police believe she’s the baby’s mother, but are awaiting DNA confirmation.

Officers found the baby unconscious and unresponsive at the home when they responded to a 911 call Saturday morning. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The city’s medical examiner is still determining the cause of death. Police are continuing to investigate.
