WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (AP) - Police say a Willimantic man is facing charges after he assaulted an officer during his arrest.

Police had a warrant for 30-year-old Alberto Dejesus-Rosado for unrelated assault charges and attempted to take him into custody around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Police say Dejesus-Rosado resisted and assaulted the arresting officer.

The officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released.

Officers say they found Dejesus-Rosado in possession of powder and crack cocaine packaged for sale.

He was arrested and charged with assaulting an officer, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and other crimes.

Dejesus-Rosado was released on bond. He’s scheduled to appear March 22 in Danielson Superior Court.

A message left at a number listed for Dejesus-Rosado wasn’t immediately returned.
