CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Legislators have approved at least one more year of funding for the State Board of Education coordinator.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1Wkzay0 ) that the 2017-18 biennial budget approved by the Legislature funds the position until June 30, 2017.

In addition, State Board of Education must submit a report to lawmakers in September regarding the board’s structure and the necessity of its coordinator. Legislators then will use that report to help decide whether to fund the position after June 2017.

The position currently is held by Paige Fenton Hughes.

The job was created after the Legislature gave added duties to the State Board on education accountability.

Earlier this year the Joint Appropriations Committee voted to recommend the Legislature defund the coordinator position.
