PHOENIX (AP) - The two men accused of fatally shooting two women in Surprise were employed as gardeners at the retirement community where the shooting occurred.

The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1SN1jPo ) that Gothic Grounds Management, a landscaping company, says it employed 24-year-old Andrew Thomas Lauro and 23-year-old Montez Lavell Wright II at Sun City Grand where the Feb. 9shootings took place.

The two men are accused of killing 70-year-old Barbara Leslie of Surprise and 75-year-old Ruth Schwed of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In a letter sent to Sun City Grand residents Friday, Gothic Grounds said the two men had been employed as field gardeners for less than a month at the time of the shooting. Their employment ended Feb. 5.

The company said they are cooperating fully with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.
