TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (AP) - Officials say they have arrested a man who set 10 small brush fires in Twentynine Palms and cut a deputy with a knife.

The Inland Valley Bulletin reports that firefighters say they saw a man running away when they responded to the brush fires on Saturday.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies found a 53-year-old transient in the foothills nearby. Deputies Raman Singh and Dennis Tollefson say the man had a knife in each hand and threw one in Singh’s direction but didn’t hit him.

Officials say the deputies were able to subdue and handcuff the man, but Tollefson received a minor cut on his arm in the process.

The man was booked into Morongo Basin Jail with a $50,000 bail.
