WASHINGTON (AP) - Metro is warning of delays continuing into the evening rush hour because of an early-morning cable fire near the McPherson Square station.
The fire Monday resulted in delays of 30 minutes to one hour on Blue and Orange line trains. Silver line trains were turned back at Ballston Station to ease downtown congestion. Some trains also bypassed stations to limit delays for the greatest number of customers.
Buses were brought in to pick up the slack.
Metro says repairs will begin at 9 p.m. Monday, suspending rail service on tracks between Foggy Bottom and Federal Triangle.
