PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Fire officials say several people have been displaced after a fire ripped through a Providence home over the weekend.

Fire Chief William Kenyon says firefighters were called to the Social Street house around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Kenyon says firefighters were told that two children were on the third floor. But they later found that all of the occupants had left the building.

Firefighters contained the blaze in just under an hour. Kenyon says the third floor was completely burned out. The first and second floors sustained water damage.

A firefighter was hospitalized with an injury that’s not considered life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.

WPRI-TV reports that the Red Cross is providing assistance for seven adults and two children who were displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
