WELD, Maine (AP) - Maine state police say a Massachusetts man was killed in a weekend crash in the Franklin County town of Weld.

Troopers were called to the scene around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say 58-year-old Richard Rogers lost control of his car as he was traveling on Route 156. His vehicle began to spin, crossed the center line and struck a large tree.

The Pembroke, Massachusetts, man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the possible presence of a deer in or near the roadway and excessive speed were likely the causes of the crash.
