JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a 29-year-old man shot and killed a woman before turning the gun on himself.

Hudson County prosecutors say Jersey City police responded to a report of shots fired Monday morning and found 29-year-old Amelia Holmes lying on the street with apparent gunshot wounds to her body. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A few hours later, prosecutors say Bayonne police and Jersey City police responded to a park located at the border of the two cities and found Terrence Jackson dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Prosecutors say Jackson matched the description of the suspect in the initial shooting and had been in a relationship with Holmes.

The investigation is ongoing.

This story has been corrected to show the last name of the victim is Holmes, not Homes.
