BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A teenager who was arrested after a fatal crash in Lafayette is facing DUI and vehicular homicide charges.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports (https://goo.gl/dULh5H ) 18-year-old Niraj Gautam was arrested early Saturday after the crash that killed 65-year-old Loretta Avalos. He also faces charges of reckless driving, reckless endangerment and false reporting.

Investigators say Gautam told them he was trying to make a U-turn on U.S. Highway 287 while driving to his home in Erie. He refused to take a breath test but failed roadside sobriety tests.

On Monday, a judge set Gautam’s bail at $20,000, citing his ties to the community and his lack of criminal history.

David Moorhead, one of Gautam’s attorneys, said he couldn’t comment because it’s very early in the case and the investigation is ongoing.
