COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Latest on ex-deep sea treasure hunter Tommy Thompson (all times local):

11:45 a.m.

A federal judge in Ohio is keeping a former deep-sea treasure hunter in jail until he answers questions about the location of 500 missing gold coins.

Defendant Tommy Thompson has been held in contempt of court since mid-December when Judge Algenon Marbley found Thompson violated a plea deal by refusing to respond.

Thompson told Marbley on Monday he believed he’d already said everything he knew about the coins, minted from gold recovered from a historic shipwreck.

Marbley says Thompson is continuing a pattern of “misdirection and deceit” and ordered him to remain in jail with another hearing in 60 days.

Thompson is also being fined $1,000 a day until he cooperates.

The gold was recovered from the SS Central America, which sank in a hurricane off South Carolina in 1857.

A federal judge wants an update on the willingness of a former deep-sea treasure hunter to answer questions about the location of 500 gold coins recovered from a historic shipwreck.

Defendant Tommy Thompson has been held in contempt of court since mid-December when Judge Algenon Marbley found Thompson violated a plea deal by refusing to respond.

Marbley also said Thompson would be fined $1,000 a day until he cooperates. A hearing is set for Monday. A message was left with Thompson’s attorney.

Thompson agreed in a plea deal last year to answer questions about the coins from the SS Central America, which sank in a hurricane off South Carolina in 1857.

He also faces two years in prison for failing to appear before a judge three years ago to answer similar questions.

This story has been corrected to show the ship was called the SS Central America, not the S.S. America.
