STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania caregiver has been sentenced to 15 to 40 years in the death of an elderly man who had been living with her.

Fifty-six-year-old Judith Marc of Coolbaugh Township pleaded guilty earlier in Monroe County to third-degree murder in the December 2014 death of 92-year-old William Collins. Police said he was found dead in his wheelchair with a broken neck and head trauma.

The Pocono Record (https://bit.ly/1UdyFId ) reports that Marc tearfully apologized Monday before sentencing, saying she was sorry for hurting the victim and his family and adding “I loved him very much.”

Defense attorney Patrick Rogan sought leniency, saying Marc had no prior criminal record. But President Judge Margherita Patti Worthington called the crime “disturbing, gruesome and heinous” and warranting a sentence in the aggravated range.
