WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A driver services facility located in downtown Wheaton will close next week after the state failed to pay rent on the building for more than six months.

The secretary of state’s office has confirmed that 138 driver services facilities stopped receiving rent payments in July because of an ongoing stalemate in the legislature over Illinois’ budget. According to a spokesman from the office, the Wheaton location is the first to shut down due to rent not being paid on time.

The Daily Herald (https://bit.ly/1S1NpXu ) reports that the facility has been in operation since the late 1990s and serves about 9,000 people per month. The nine employees who work at the facility will be reassigned to other locations.
